BY COOKIE H. is Where Fashion's Logic Redefines Retail Architecture in Hangzhou

The BY COOKIE H. project is conceived as a three-dimensional articulation of the independent woman's complex temperament - a core value of the brand. This design translates the internal dialogue of "sharpness and inner warmth" into an immersive and perceptible physical field

Constructing Space Through the Logic of Fashion: BY COOKIE H.

The visitor’s journey begins with a tactile prologue at the entrance. The black, handcrafted door handle, a deliberate study in tension, is wrapped in thorny thorns yet gently bound by a soft hemp rope. This controlled encounter serves as the space’s soul footnote: a gentle heart perpetually maintained beneath a facade of independence and resilience. The design is conceived by Water Team Design’s Zhang Xiaojun, whose vision anchors the dialogue between fashion’s logic and spatial experience.

Spatial Choreography and Silhouette Cutting

The architectural intervention began with a conceptual 'three-dimensional cutting' of the original site, effectively sectioning the coffee and clothing display areas. The most exquisite element of this division is a monumental transparent glass off-axis door. Operating like an oversized, open garment placket, this feature dramatically segments and simultaneously integrates the indoor and outdoor environments. This boundary maintains the original large glass façade, constructing a continuously shifting landscape frame that captures the streetscape, light, shadow, and passing pedestrians into a dynamic urban tableau.

A Material Palette of Contrast

The space employs material layering to express personality, much like clothing. The exterior narrative is defined by the calm and tough texture of plain concrete and a sharp black and white palette, reflecting the resolute nature of the independent woman. This is juxtaposed with the 'warm heart' of the interior: old wooden flooring, which recalls the brand studio’s familiar memories, and an overhead structure of old wooden beams. The beams stand like a warm coat draped over a composed space, creating a profound visual and emotional contrast that enriches the spatial experience.

Customization forms the narrative thread woven throughout the furniture and props. The coffee table, for instance, is an abstract extraction of the poetic essence of West Lake's lotus leaves, its form a solidified stretch of nature's beauty. In contrast, the primitive metal hanger rods, with their rough and realistic texture, humbly serve to highlight the exquisite design and artistry of the clothing they bear, collectively constructing a space full of the host's will.

The Urban Theater and Community

Adjacent to the giant window, the coffee area is framed as a "city stage." A deliberate relationship of "seeing and being seen" is orchestrated: guests observe the world outside, while simultaneously becoming a part of the street view appreciated by the urban audience. This compelling interaction stimulates exploration and encourages lingering.

Though restrained in form, the space fully manifests an internal vitality, notably through careful consideration of pet friendliness. The window area is designed to naturally grow into a small community communication platform, attracting individuals of the same frequency. This design strategy completes the integration from passive observation to active community participation, injecting sustained, gentle vitality into a calm space.

The BY COOKIE H. project is an enlarged piece of clothing - a showcase for the spirit of its principal. Through the applied design logic of cutting and material layering, the design team has  crafted a non-standard commercial space capable of expressing independent personality while simultaneously accommodating the warmth of community. When night falls, the semi-transparent glass-walled cloakroom box glows faintly in the block, presenting itself as the serene facade of a tiny, contemplative building.
